During World War II, 563 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-boats on the North Atlantic protecting convoys of men and material. In the Pacific they stood in line to defend naval task forces from Japanese submarines and Kamikaze air attacks. Today, only one of these ships remains afloat in the United States, the USS SLATER.  You’ll tour this fully restored vessel including visits to the officer’s quarters, crew sleeping accommodations, galleys, offices, navigation areas, and much more.

Following our visit, we’ll head for the ever-popular Buca di Beppo, an Italian American favorite for a lunch which includes two salads, two pasta dishes, chicken parmesan, and dessert.  You’ll love the insane Italian décor.  After lunch we’ll pay a visit to the New York State Museum which is packed with artifacts celebrating the history of New York.  You’ll find an interesting exhibition of artifacts from the 9-11 bombing, Sesame Street sets, a working carousel on the top floor, industrial, social, transportation, and architectural memorabilia, and a wonderful gift shop.
